The city's annual fashion festival has opened at the Senayan City mall in Central Jakarta.
The event, which kicked off on Saturday and is slated to run until Friday, features the latest works of local and foreign designers that will set next year's fashion trends.
“Jakarta Fashion Week 2017 presents stronger colors of Indonesia's fashion industry wave," the festival's chairman, Svida Alisjahbana, said on Saturday as quoted by tempo.co. More than 30,000 fashionistas would witness more than 70 shows displaying 3000 outfits, she said, which included ready-to-wear and modest wear to haute couture and accessories.

In addition to 230 models, more than 250 designers are set to participate in the event, including designers from Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and the UK. Local designers joining the event include Anne Avantie, Itang Yunasz, Musa Widyatmodjo, Didi Budiardjo, Norma Hauri, Dian Pelangi, Jenahara, Ria Mirana and Rani Hatta.
Jakarta Fashion Week has been a stepping stone for young designers from several fashion schools, such as Anineri Ang Atelier et Createur de Mode, Binus Nothumbria School of Design, LaSalle College Jakarta, Esmod Jakarta and Istituto Di Moda Burgo.
Salman Subakat, marketing director for Wardah, the event's official makeup brand, said thousands of makeup artists would participate backstage to present the latest makeup concepts. "This event serves [to present] inspiration and trends from two industries: fashion and cosmetics, which could help move forward the country's economy," he said.
Meanwhile, L'Oreal general manager for the professional product division, Michael Justisoesetya, said the company aimed to educate, innovate and inspire people by participating in the event for the fifth time. "By this fifth year, L'oreal has contributed 290 hair stylists who have created 8,088 hair styles for 367 fashion shows," he said. (kes – Source : Jakartapost.com)
